Beta Alpha Psi Excels
The Adkerson School of Accountancy’s Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) chapter has brought Gold status recognition to Mississippi State.
“The achievement of Gold status with Beta Alpha Psi reflects the hard work and dedication of our officers and members throughout the year,” states faculty advisor Alan Stancill, Assistant Clinical Professor of Accountancy. “To be recognized, a chapter must maintain the highest levels of activity in professional development, service and professional and community impact.”
The chapter meets weekly, hearing from practitioners representing a range of firms and companies who speak about various topics relevant to the accounting profession. Service activities include tutoring students for Principles of Accounting exams and participating in the Mississippi Society of CPAs’ Days of Service. Chapter members also promote the accounting profession at local school career fairs and at MSU campus events for incoming students.
Over the summer, chapter president Anna Hudson traveled to Baltimore for BAP’s 2026 Annual Meeting, to take part in the Project Run With It competition. To participate, students must be nominated by their chapters and their applications accepted by the head office.
The contest teams students from different universities in real-world consulting projects. Hudson’s group was assigned to Hon’s Honey, a sub-entity of The Well Foundation nonprofit.
“We were tasked to create and present a workforce development strategy, specifically, a scalable framework that supports employee growth and sustainability and aligns with The Well Foundation’s core values. A major part of my contribution was creating an HTML tool using a strategy Dr. Kyle Smith teaches in Accounting Systems 2,” shares Hudson. “The other girls on my team were from the University of Texas at Tyler, the University of Auckland in New Zealand and the University at Buffalo.”
She continues, “It was an amazing experience. I’m so grateful to have been able to do this. I love the Richard C. Adkerson School of Accountancy!”
