ASAC Career Fair Sees New Growth

The Adkerson School of Accountancy’s 2023 Career Fair was one of the largest to date, with 45 employers and 220 students attending. It was held at The Mill Conference Center on September 6.

“This event offers an opportunity for many types of employers who hire MSU accounting students to gather – the room is full of representatives from public accounting firms large and small, government agencies and industries – all who are interested in our students!” remarks Jan Lewis, ASAC Advisory Council Chair and Tax Partner at Haddox Reid Eubank Betts, PLLC. “This gives the students who come a view of the many different career options in accounting. And as for attendees, we see students at all stages of their education. Many are juniors or seniors searching for internships, some are graduate students looking for full time employment and some are sophomores who are just starting their accounting classes but want the experience of talking to employers and learning about future opportunities.”

The event’s continued growth over time led this year to an enhanced partnership in executing the annual fair. The MSU Career Center, which partners with campus departments to create connection opportunities for students and employers, helped plan and manage the 2023 fair.

“The MSU Career Center was thrilled to partner with the Adkerson School of Accountancy and its annual Accounting Career Fair more closely this fall,” states Bethany Mills, Executive Director of the Center. “Our goals were to help provide the event management resources needed to easily register employers, have students RSVP to the event and provide day-of event services to help students connect with accounting employers. By pulling our resources together, we saw an increase in employers and students for this year’s fair. This year’s success is a combination of efforts from the Career Center and the School of Accountancy, and we look forward to seeing this event continue to grow!”

Lewis states, “I enjoy coming to the Career Fair each year and appreciate all the hard work that Adkerson School of Accountancy staff and the Career Center put in to make the Fair such an impressive event. I love meeting students and seeing the faculty who are so dedicated to attend, and it’s always fun connecting with other MSU alums who are there to represent their businesses!”

MSU accounting graduates have always been highly recruited, but with the current industry-wide shortage of accountants and auditors, this year’s Career Fair was vitally important. It served both students and employers with strategic, beneficial opportunities.
