News from the Richard C. Adkerson School of Accountancy

Greetings from the Director

It is a great time to be a Bulldog at Mississippi State University. There is always something to be proud of on this campus, and this is definitely true for the Adkerson School of Accountancy. As you read my comments and the Bulldog Ledger, please join me in celebrating the successes that defined last year for the School.

Here are a few highlights of the School’s accomplishments that made 2019 a year to remember…. CCH’s Public Accounting Report ranked the School’s undergraduate and graduate programs in the top ten for similar size programs. Internships and placement rates for students continue to be at all-time highs. The Accelerating Students into the Accounting Profession (ASAP) summer camp for high school students reached capacity. Enrollments and retention of students continue to be strong. Beta Alpha Psi achieved Superior status. Scholarships awarded at the spring banquet exceeded the previous year. Several new fellowships and professorships were established. The Dora Rose Herring Accounting Suite renovation was completed. These accomplishments, along with others presented in the newsletter, are a clear indication that we continue to move the Adkerson School of Accountancy to the next level of excellence.

We are excited to welcome two new faculty for fall 2020 – Mrs. Casey Camors and Ms. Kun Liu. Mrs. Camors is a PhD candidate at Texas Tech University’s Rawls College of Business, and Ms. Liu is a PhD candidate at the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business. As with all our faculty, each brings diverse experiences and strengths to the program. I am confident that their contributions will have a positive impact on the School. We also hired a new undergraduate Academic Coordinator, Mrs. Trina Pollan. Mrs. Pollan is doing a great job advising students and keeping them on track. In this issue, you can read about her and others who joined the team this past fall.

I am very pleased with the success our faculty are having in the classroom and with their research. Delivering up-to-date curricula, providing quality teaching and mentoring students are priorities of the faculty. They are also research-active, with several publishing in top ranked accounting journals. We are truly blessed to have faculty who are committed to the mission of the School.

I have said this before, but it is worth repeating: Being the Director of the Adkerson School of Accountancy is an awesome and rewarding job. This is due in large part to the accounting alumni and an Advisory Council who love the School and Mississippi State University and give back with their time and resources. I enjoy interacting and working with each one of you. Thank you for being part of a premiere accounting program that provides tremendous career opportunities to students in Mississippi and beyond.

I hope you enjoy reading the Bulldog Ledger. As you will see, we have a lot to celebrate in the Adkerson School of Accountancy. Please keep up with what is going on in the School by visiting our website and through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. If you are in Starkville, please come by for a visit and check out the newly renovated suite. As always, thank you for your continued support.

Hail State!
